Siempre que se da una situación en la que un virus ataca a un gran número de ordenadores de empresas u organizaciones importantes, la noticia salta a los medios de comunicación como vimos en la entrada del 15/02/2009.
Cuando hablamos de virus, a día de hoy, nos estamos refiriendo a ordenadores que funcionan con Windows como sistema operativo. Sin embargo cada vez hay más PCs que funciona con software libre y utilizan alguna distribución de GNU/Linux a los que los virus nos les atacan.
Se podría pensar que esto es debido a que la mayoría de los ordenadores trabajan con Windows, pero realmente el que casi no existan virus para Linux se debe a:
- La propia estructura del sistema que es mucho más segura que la de Windows.
- Es más difícil realizar virus para Linux que para Windows.
- En cuanto se detecta una amenaza, hay un grupo enorme de desarrolladores que resuelven el problema en un escaso margen de tiempo.
La conclusión, desde el punto de vista de la seguridad está clara: pasarse a un sistema operativo basado en software libre.
Además lo más importante es el aspecto filosófico que hay detrás de esa corriente, frente al software privativo.
